Default Fishin' with a BUNCH!! of Rookies

Took 10 kids (Nate was the most experienced) fishing on the Catawba River in SC on Saturday. All church kids and one (11 years old) caught his first fish EVER! (He won a gold hook for his cap). The fishing wasn't as good as it could have been, but we ended up with a very respectable mess of catfish (70 fish or so). Caught numerous 2-5 lbs. fish and a good many good eating size channel cats to go along with the blues. I hope to get some pics emailed to me from a couple of the other men on the trip that I can post later. It was a BLAST watching those kids tangle with the catfish. I believe that if we'd been on the right side of the full moon, we would had more fish to dress than we knew what to do with. It was already a pretty good chore standing in the river and getting them cleaned as it was. I kept a mess of eating-size ones to cook on the bone (too lazy to fillet the big fish) at home. It was a great trip that I know several young men will never forget. It won't be my last time to fish the headwaters of Wateree. The Sandlappers were out in full force playing and striper fishing so next trip for me will be during the week if I can ever find a day off from my travels. Butch, FOM, Jiggs, and all you retired guys make me want to throw-up getting to fish anytime the mood strikes. Don't take it personal fellas, I'm just envious.

Way to go Barry. Good that those kids had fun. You earned a gold hook for your hat for taking em out .Glad those old Sandlapper fish was at least a little willing to help out.

Congrats on what sounds like a great trip Barry. I know you and the guys enjoyed watching (and helping) those kids "work" for their catch and by the sound of it they did pretty good.Thumbs Up Those small cats you brought home will be some fine eating. Hope you find some time for a little weekday fishing cause the boat traffic is at a nil during the week, especially during the morning hours. I do appreciate you paying Uncle Sam weekly for me though.

thanks for the report Barry.brings back some good memories.I used to take some of the forth & fifth grade boys from the church crappie fishing on my dads pontoon boat.I would also give them the gold fish hooks for there hats.I would tell them that the hat hooks would represent HOOKED ON JEJUS. most of those boys have never forgot those trips.

sounds like you have them hooked on fishing after that kinda of trip. what part of the catwaba river were you on that you saw striper fisherman? just wondering cause i know there are some big ones in it, just hard to find boat access.
