    Default Fuzzy mega SI images

Last couple of trips the images on my Helix Mega have been terrible, really fuzzy and washed out looking no matter how I try to adjust it. Really bad on side image, a little fuzzy on down image, 2d looks fine. Today I did a reset defaults, it didn't help. I have a non mega helix unit on the bow of my boat, the side imaging on it is washed out as well but not as bad. I've always loved my helix mega images, lately not so much. Could this be caused by allot of particles, runoff, or a planton bloom in the water. Going out again tomorrow in a different part of the lake. I will take some screenshots but I'm concerned I may have an issue. Wish I knew someone else close by with the same unit to compare. Any suggestions or thoughts on what to try?
    Thanks,
    Roy

I also networked this unit to a Helix 7 di that sits right beside it about a month or so ago. I'm just using the 7 for mapping, 2d, and di. Not using a transducer on the 7, just sharing information from the Helix 10. Any chance I'm getting interference between the 2 units?

Any time my sonars start messing up I do a default reset. I would just reset both units and see if the problem cleared up and then do what ever advance setting back to how you want them.

There shouldn't be interference with the HELIX 7 not having no its own xducer ...

You could test by disconnecting the Ethernet and leave the HELIX 7 powered off ...

My guess is algae or plankton ...

This may not be your problem.... but where I live, this time of year the pollen is so bad it will actually mix in the water and cause the images to be more fuzzy or soft. Just a thought.

    Default Picture

Here is a picture today of the "best" image I can get from my mega. I cannot use the blue pallet I prefer as the whole screen will be fussy. In less than 20 fow I can see ok, water collum still fussy. Some parts of the image too hot, at 50' the edges get dark. In 20fow or more the entire image washes out. Lots of pollen on water surface and water is stained. Almost feel better because my non Helix 10 on the bow that has side image is just as bad. Down image on both units a little fussy but can be adjusted to be ok. Do you think I have a problem or is it bad water?

I am thinking and hoping it could be the water as I have seen mine in the early mornings at times really bad. But I don't have a newer unit mine is just a couple of HB 899. I like the blue pallet best also. Sometimes I have to reset my sensitivity and contrast to see a better picture also. Hope you get it figured out. I will be looking forward to seeing your sonar and fishing pictures.

Roy,I took mine out today and on windy side it too was bad, not quite as bad as yours but yours is a hotter unit, think it's just the water,

Maybe Genec is right about the water. My mega 10 has been a pain to get a good image on here recently. I was thinking it was my tuning skills but maybe the nasty water is having an effect.

I’m thinking Genec is on the money.
