The added benefit of getting 2d from the additional 2d xducer is that the expensive MEGA xducer can be mounted higher on the transom for protection from being damaged by something floating on the water ...

Im trying to clarify how the 998 will read SI . If networked will it be able to read the mega tranducer if I have it set to 455 or 800. Will it pickup the DI and 2d . Im getting ready to buy it now . And want to buy cables and everything at 1 time .

All CHIRP in the MEGA unit will have to be turned off and set to fixed frequency ... Then the 998 will be able to use 83/200kHz 2d, 455/800kHz SI from the MEGA xducer ...

The 998 may have DI views but they will not be from the dedicated DI piezo in the MEGA xducer ...

Got some more questions. I have a older navionics card and a newer lake master card. Which card will work for auto chart live? Will I need a card to run it? Robert when you get time, id still like a pic of your transducer location.

AutoChart Live uses depth and GPS position info ... A map card is not neccessary to create AutoChart Live ...

The HELIX has 8 hours of internal memory space to write AutoChart Live data to ... If you want more than the 8 hours of internal memory space, you will need a Zero Line card to write more AutoChart Live data to ...

AutoChart Live data is an overlay layer on top of map data ...

The AutoChart Live data (internally stored or Zero Line card stored) can be overlayed (and transparency adjusted) onto Navionics card data, LakeMaster card data, or onto the built in base map data ...

Just got the Mega.Have any of you used the base map and had good results with auto chart live overlay. Maybe this is the way to go. Id still like to see a few pictures of the Mega xducer mounted on the back of an aluminum boat. I also have a SI transducer question. I know the beam is a thin slice. But how thin is it. Id like to know if its going to shoot straight down and to the sides. Will it be able to shoot between my transom and foot. Do you have a picture of the beam or know of a link I can go to so It can be a little more clear to me.

Greg always explained that the SI slice beam was "as thick front to back as the xducer housing is long" ...

After installing, raise the motor all the way up and compare ... If the image is brighter (especially on the motor side) = this is indication the motor lower unit is blocking some of the SI beam on that side ...
