Default Mounting SI 'Ducer on War Eagle transom

I am planning to get a SI Helix soon, but was wondering where the best place to mount the transducer on the transom. If you look at the pic there are concave "wings" on each side, which if mounted there (like my regular sonar transducer is now), it won't read true would it? I'm thinking I need to mount it on the flat part, but will that be too close to the motor?

Right under where the drain plug is hanging. Shouldn't be affected by motor. Just read the directions about installing between runners.

I mounted my Helix 7 SI Ducer on the transom of my 1652 boat. I was unable to achieve the recommended 15 inches from the lower unit. I was only able to achieve 12 inches without going to the extreme outside rear right corner. I just trim up a little bit and it works fine, if motor is all the way down I lose most the left SI. It's not an issue for me since I can only cruise up to 4 - 5 mph before I lose my image on screen. Just like cray said try to center in between those two runners below the plug in picture, it's all you can do on a narrow boat.

The 15" minimum in the installation is for outdrive boats ...

Outboards need only be concerned with not mounting the xducer directly in front of the lower unit water intakes ... because the xducer can create turbulence (air) to enter the intakes ...

And do not mount the xducer so close to the lower unit that the motor hits the xducer housing at full lock turn to that side ...
