Cool jig head painting on scored jigheads

This is my first post. So, greetings to all. I started making my own lures mainly because it gives this retiree something to do over the winter months. Not to mention, it is also very relaxing. I made a decision to paint my jig heads with nail polish. I did my first batch in a greenish/brown glitter that came out nice. My second batch was in white. I noticed that the lighter color tended to bring out the scores and pits in the jig head more. It seems nearly impossible to get a smooth look to the head with a lighter color. Question. Is there anything my fellow anglers do to smooth out a jig head before painting or do you have a favorite jig head brand that usually comes without scores or pits? Your comments will be appreciated.

I use 2 or 3 coats on mine for that problem. Just don't keep coating jig tail retainer, The other option is to scape clean head.

I file smooth all my jigs before painting (powder paint or fingernail polish) - even check the balance...

Welcome from Central Florida. Truth be told, the fish don't care. If you're pouring your own, you might raise the heat of the pot and get em to come out of the mold a bit smoother. Smoking the mold with a candle makes the jigs come out of the mold a little easier, but not sure if it makes the heads smoother. Jacobs molds are machined and inherently smoother, but harder to get them to release from the mold. Just a warning to be careful about smoothing any lead head and creating airborne dust, bad stuff if it gets to your lungs. Post some pics when you can and you can teach us all.
