If you are talking about the spru, I twist them off. Hold the hook then grab spru with needle nose twist/Rock off it comes.

If you're talking about trimming flash, I use the back edge of a knife, or something similar and use the 90* portion to remove the flash. That's what I do. I also sometimes open the gate trimmers, single ground diagonal cutters, and use the cutting edge. 2 or 3 passes will remove the worst flash I have ever generated.

Thanks for the info guys. First time pouring jig heads, they turned out really well.

Go to Harbor freight and buy some of their mini diagonal cutters. They have a red handle and run about 3 bucks a set. I have also picked up various types of cutters at a local bead store. Another thing you can do, if you are very careful, is to use small diamond files. I found a set at Harbor freight for about 5 bucks maybe.

I cut my flash the same way. When I start getting too much, it is usually time to clean the mold. I pour about 10000 3/4oz jigs per year so I am always looking for the best way to produce with the least amount of flash.

I like mine to look really professional so I even go as far as to file the top after I take the spru off. When doing several 100 at a time, I use a 6 inch bench grinder and quickly hit the area where the spru was.
