Default Some good crappie fishing information

Living in South central Pa. I feel somewhat limited to good crappie fishing in my area. I travel into the Williamsburg Va area and find some exciting action in late March and early April. A few spot yield 12 inch ( average) crappie for keepers. This does not happen every trip but there has been enough times for me to continue 2 or 3 traps a year. Looking for some Pa spots that are a little closer to home. I do not expect to be spoon feed and then spot burn your favorite spot but a little information to get started. Or PM me.
I like small 1/6 and 1/32 ounce jigs with white or yellow kip tails. Also a few other colors work at times. Minnows always work especially in very cold water such as ice fishing. Do you have a favorite lure or bait?

Hi....I'm not sure how far of a trip it would be for you,but Blue Marsh Lake in Berks County(close to Reading)has some good Crappie fishing. We do pretty good as far as numbers caught and decent size there and find it well worth the drive. If your interested and need any specific info just shoot me a message and I will help you out as best as I can.

Thanks AD1974. That is about a hour and a half from me so it is doable even for a day trip. I go to Shepard Myers and that is a hour drive. The Pm was very kind and I will get back again when it gets a little warmer and my mind is thinking open water fishing.

I'm in the same boat(sorry!) as addictedangler. I've pounded Marburg and Redman with not much to show for it. I did fish Octarora once last summer but of course it poured rain all day so while I got a couple they were dinks. Might have to head up to Blue Marsh this spring.

Pinchot - same time of year, just got to find them. I usually hit it first day of trout - have the lake almost to my self. Water temp has to get above 50. Picture was from April 14 last year - water bottle is 50oz.Name: 20170414_164236.jpg

We fished the breast at Pinchot a few weeks ago on the ice. Plenty of small blue gills but not one crappie. This morning I was in southern Va and fished for about a half hour at Rock-a-hock on the Chick. One decent crappie. It was 68 deg at daylight!
