Went out Wednesday and spent more time looking for fish than fishing. Finally found some better fish in 32 fow around 17 to 20 ft deep in vertical timber. Caught some nice fish on a blue/silver 1/8 ounce jigging spoon and a BG baby shad in chart/white. Had to find the shad to catch fish. Only saw a few small fish caught along rip rap. Water temp was 37 to 41 deg and clear. Sorry no pictures got in after dark.

Kenance (Kenny) it was good to put a face with a name on the water yesterday. Enjoyed the visit even though the bite was tough. Very few keepers. Talked to several boats that didn't have a fish. Caught bigger fish spidering in 16 to 20 fow at 02 mph on double minnow drop shots running 1/2 ounce of weight. Water temp came up to 42.5 deg and really scattered the fish. Need it down around 34 to 37 deg and it will get better. Had a lot of short strikes from smaller fish. Probably could have caught a ton of short fish downsizing to BG baby shad straight lining. Lake is below winter pool at 1009.60 and clear. Fish are real spooky in the clear water. Had to keep the sun in my face and shadow behind me to get bites.

Hey all you guys around Ponca who powder paint jigs, I went by Prizm Powder Coatings on west Hartford in Ponca City to see about getting some white powder paint for base coat for my jigs today. Well it turns out they are shutting down or rather they are already shut down just doing cleanup waiting on buyers to come and get equipment. To make a long story short I wound up buying 4 colors with more than a pound in each box for $10. That's right more than 4 pounds for just $10 total. If any of you guys need any powder paint I would suggest getting by there in the next few days he will make you a deal but he doesn't want to break up the boxes so it will be fairly large quanities. Good Luck and Good Fishin'

Nice to meet you too Tim and thanks for all the tips. I like talking fishing almost as much as I do actually fishing. Maybe we can get together and do some "catching" before long and good luck on your guiding venture.

The floods of 2016 really changed Kaw. Think folks are going to get a shock when they start looking for brushpiles especially north of Sarge Creek. A lot has changed close to the channels. Had to look at new areas to find fish. Anyone planning on fishing Kaw better prepare for some time watching their locator. Not finding the big schools you normally see in the winter. Think a lot of it is the weather also. Fish are still there just have to put in the time to find them.

Beautiful Tuesday. Anyone get out on the lake today? Pretty quiet lately.
