    Default Rain Rain 3-1-18

Decided not to let the rains keep stuck around the house all day. Did some wading at Local lake in NE Ohio. Caught around 60 crappie 7-11” kept 12 . Most of the fish came from 6 fow in & around the weeds. Caught them on a variety of baits. Several on a chartreuse maribou jig lots of them came on a 1/64th jig with a 1”black Shad gulp picked up a few on a gold #6 thin wire hook and live minnow & some on itty bitty garlands. The action was pretty good despite the miserable conditions. They really wanted the jig moving today couldn’t be lazy with it due to the lack of wind it probably would have been some super hot action if there would have been some chop. Name: IMG_1265.jpg

What a difference a 4/5 hour drive makes. It's not only windy and raining but everything is really flooded down here in the SW corner of the state,
My local lake is up 33' and looks like chocolate milk. Mostly of the lakes down this way are up 10'-40' and with any luck they may start drawing them down in the next few days.

Serious difference! If it makes it any better now it’s snowing! And the water temp was pushing 50 in some shallow bays I fish but I’m sure this cold front will ruin the progress.

When I was in central Ohio last weekend the flooding was pretty amazing I haven’t seen it that bad since 2011 we launched from my buddy’s driveway which is normally 300 yards off the river. Name: IMG_1226.jpg

Temps are dropping down here too.
Friend of mine lives about 3/4 mile from the Ohio River. He said the river was in his back yard on Wednesday when the river peaked.
I did get out a coup[e of days during the middle of the week and caught a few gills and crappie at one of the "local lakes". Most were small but it was good to get out.
I'm headed to Alabama on the 25th. I hope all this flooding settles down soon. Everything up north, heads down there.

This is going to be our 1st year going back down there in maybe 12-13 years, I'm really looking forward to it.
We used to go every year but the group fell apart and we started going to Ky Lake. That group has dissolved so we plan on doing a trip to Cumberland at the end of April. Cumberland is a little tougher fishing but the crappie are pretty good size and we like the challenge.

I spent a month doing hurricane work in Florida last September it was way too hot and humid for my liking. I did see some places in central Florida that looked like prime crappie waters. But I told my wife when I got back to Ohio I’d never go to Florida again for anything. Mississippi is probably number 1 on my list of places I’d like to visit for crappie.
