    Default Mosquito lake crappie trip

I am a PA crappie guy and hit Pymatuning pretty regularly. Been thinking of getting an Ohio license so I can use the launch on your side of the causeway, it looks like a good one. Also thought a trip to Mosquito Lake might be a good idea. Any help on where to start fishing, good bait and tackle store, good place to stay with a boat and trailer, good place to eat or anything else you think may be helpful. Also I could adhere to Ohio size limits on walleye at Pymatuning and I guess Mosquito is pretty good for walleye also. How much is a nonresident annual license? THANKS FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE ME!!!!!!

What time of year you goin'? It's been 15 years since I was on Mosquito, but the crappie there can run big. If you're going mid May or beyond, find the humps and ledges dropping from 7-9 feet into 20 feet and fish the stumps on the ledge. I always liked walleye in other lakes in the area (West Branch, Berlin), cause I always seemed to catch too many hammer handles in Mosquito. May have changed though.

Another thing that you want to look for, is when you are fishing the southern side of the causeway, directly south on the eastern edge you will find a dropoff from shore going from 2-3ft to about 7-14, finding that dropoff and following it about 20 yards to the west there is a stumpfield that we used to jig crappie up from when I was a little kid with my dad. I haven't been on the lake in 5 years though, so things could have changed.
