I really dislike cotton mouths they are aggressive and you usually encounter them when getting away quickly isn't an option. The little rattlesnakes and copperhead we usually see in Missouri don't bother me. I have only seen one timber rattlesnake in my life and it was not aggressive. Cotton mouth may be the only snake I would kill just because I saw it.

Also remember that just because it is dead or you think is it can still be poisonous. The head still has poison in it. So "CHOOT IT" an then leave it along.

hate to be a downer Debbie but snakes aren't poisonous. Venomous , yep. Poisonous, nope.also, I am not so sure that's a cottonmouth. Some watersnakes have a head shape close to a delta but not quite. Picture is not clear enough to be sure.Originally Posted by scrat

An ol bud of mine would have just reached down and grabbed him, pulled out his pocket knife, and cut its head off in that order and never give it a thought. Not me for sure.
