As a history groupie but Hollywierd hater, I rarely darken the doors of a movie theater. I have been watching the build-up for this movie for a few weeks and decided to go back to the history books (YouTube actually) to get the real story of the Dunkirk evacuation and how it was the blunder that probably cost Hitler the war. He let 400,000 British and allied troops escape sure capture or death by stopping his ground assault and allowing the air power to destroy the British troops. They didn't. Lots of war movies think they have to show the blood and guts of a "Saving Private Ryan" which horrified lots of people not expecting to see the real horrors of battle. This movie had all the drama but the feel of a movie from my childhood with very little cursing and almost no guts and gore. Sure there were scenes of multiple soldiers drowning when ships were bombed or torpedoed and being cut up by strafing aircraft but it was much less graphic than most recent films.
I enjoyed it.
