He said that no older version of Office would run on the new system and that I needed to either buy the software outright or buy a years subscription to it. Also, once installed on your computer it could not be installed again. Needless to say I found a system with windows 7 on it. If what he told me is true, that really sucks.

Save your money and download Open Office for free! The only thing you lose out on is Microsoft Publisher.

I just installed Ubuntu on an XP machine due to the non-support for one of our computers. I'll be playing around with that for a while trying to learn more. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?

Everyone that has xp are having their computer crash (my self included) And saying all files are lost. They can be recovered if you know what you are doing though. My advise is go with manjaro, much more difficult to catch a bug because anything that trys to download to your computer, you have to type your password before it will download. With windows you left the door open just for visiting the site.
Its cheaper also. There is a learning curve with the programs to work with. Mainly learning the names of them and what they do, not so much working with the programs.

Do I go with Windows 7 or Windows 8? I don't really use my computer for much...I come here of course, my wife pays bills on line, a little bit of word documents, a little looking around the internet, not really into games and such. This computer works well, but the way I understand it is now at greater risk for bad stuff to happen since there will be no more updates from Microsoft...

Just wondering what anybody else thinks. Thanks.
I still use XP on my desktop. The only thing going away is the updates and support. It's still fine to use. Win 7 & 8 are trash so I switched to Linux for my daily use machine/laptop. Linux can take an old piece of junk computer and make it run better than new - all for free. All software is free, all updates etc. It's as Windows-ish as you get totally free.

My XP system just bit the dust. Went and got a new machine with 8.1 on it. I sure hope 8.1 is better at security and internal operations because it stinks as a user interface right now. Hope it's just a matter of getting used to.

I just got a new computer with 8.1 and I agree...the pop-up were driving me crazy. I downloaded malwarebytes ...........problem solved.

I'm not associated with any business........Just passing on something that worked for me.
