    Default Great news

Yesterday Linda and I got some great news. Some years back Linda went through a knee replacement and more recently had the other replaced also. She can now walk without knee pain but the muscles and tendons around the knee never stopped hurting since both surgeries. The Ortho Dr. said he thought it was coming from her back. An MRI seem to point in that direction also. He wanted to do surgery to fuse her L4 to L5. We decided to have a second opinion from a neuro-surgeon in a nearby town of whom we had heard great things about. This Dr. said she didn’t need a fusion but rather a simple surgery to remove a bulging disc. He did that as an outpatient through a small incision and we went home that afternoon. Things were great until she had an incident with her brother where he was falling and grabbed her and in the process twisted her back. She has been living in constant pain since and it seemed to be getting worst.

To see the neuro-surgeon we first had to get a referral from her Ortho Dr. He did an MRI and came to the conclusion that again she needed to fuse her L4 and L5. He gave us a referral to the Neuro-surgeon and off we went with the MRI and reports in hand. After studying them he came examined Linda. He made her stand and he started poking her in the area of his last surgery until he hit the tender spot which made her whoop and holler so to speak. He then had her lay down on the examining table and proceeded to rub and put pressure on the spot. After a while he said that she had some scar tissue causing muscle spasms. The cure is for me to massage the spot morning and evening and then putting on an ice pack. It’s only been one day and things are much better already. It’s so nice to have a Dr. that is honest and not out to just make money. I’m not saying that the Ortho Dr. was but perhaps he is not as up to date or as knowledgeable.

The moral of the story is “GET A SECOND OPINION”.

When it comes to surgery, it is almost always a good idea to get a second opinion. That is some great news pawpaw!
