Default Take a look at the slab I caught today!

    Okay,

I caught this 17 1/2 incher today at a neighborhood lake in SW Durham. I haven't had it weighed on an official scale but the rusted 50 year old scale that the bait shop had read 2.5 lbs. I think it weighs a bit more, but that will be determined tomorrow.

The funny thing about it was, I didn't think this lake had any decent crappie. It was my first time fishing there and the three crappie that I caught before this slab were on average 7 inches at best. When he bit, I thought it was a catfish, then when I saw it, it looked like a bass, but when I knew it was crappie I almost soiled my Hanes.

I have never caught a Crappie this large in my 25 years of fishing. I have never even seen a Crappie this large (in person). I was disappointed that the old scale came in under 3lbs, but I'm still happy at my personal best.

    Enjoy the pics.

Default I just wanted to look sharp.

My wife got a kick out of it. The way I figured it was, 30 years from now that shirt and tie will give that picture more impact than the black Dickies T-Shirt I was wearing when I caught it.

I want my Grandkids to know that Grandpa was clean with his big slab. HA!

Congrats on your personal best. No matter what the weight, if it is your biggest, it is an accomplishment. Looks bigger than 2.5 though.
    Tight lines to everyone
