    Default Jordan or Harris?

Hey everybody, it's been a while since I've been able to go crappie fishing but I've been dying waiting for an opportunity. Life has been crazy lately but it looks like the weather and life are going to let me take a shot this Friday night. I'm taking my lady out for her first night time crappie fishing trip and really want her to have a good time. I've got some new Loomis led lights I'm excited about trying and really want to put her on some fish. Anyone have a suggestion as to whether Jordan or Harris would be more productive? I've fished Harris quite a bit all different times of the year, but only fished Jordan in the spring usually looking for beaver dens and what not. If anyone has any advice they are willing to offer it would be greatly appreciated. No specific spots, I'm not in to stealing fishing holes but just some general advice on what depth they are holding at and which lake you would prefer right now.

I haven't been to either lake in a long time due to illness but no one else have chimed in so I will put in my two cents. In past summers I have had good luck at Shearon Harriss by cruising along in deep water and looking for the thermocline on the depth finder. Usually its easy to see (lots of life above dead water below) and its usually in the 15 foot range. Once I know the depth of the thermocline I head toward the nearest main lake point and if the thermocline is 15 feet I go toward the point until I find 15 feet of water. I ease along the 15 foot depth contour until I see brush and or fish throw out a marker and drop a minnow on a number 4 gold hook 12" below a number 3 split shot and stroll (slow troll/drift) until I get bit. My experience is that it may take a few minutes to get that first bite but once you get bit others follow. If I don't get bit in 10 minutes I pull my marker and ease around some more. Not every point has fish you may have to try several before you find fish. I like long sloping underwater points where the 15 foot contour is several hundred feet off shore. Don't do as well on steep point or flats with no slope at all. long gently sloping points are my favs. If you are fishing deeper than the thermocline you are in dead water and are wasting your time. Good luck.

I would say Amen to the above post. Both lakes have decent fish populations, it's just all about finding them. Good tips from Slabinator.

Thanks for the advice y'all. I wont be able to make it tonight but I'll be going tomorrow night instead. I'm still kind of undecided about where I'll be going but I'm sure this info applies to both lakes. Thanks for such a detailed post I really appreciate it. I'll be sure to let y'all know how we did.

Ended up going to Jordan last night. Only caught 2 small crappie, but had several bites. I fished in about 12 ft of water and I couldn't get a bit unless I was fishing about 4 to 6 ft down. Didn't catch as many as I would have liked too, but it still beat sitting around the house. It was just nice to get back out there and do some fishing. Now I'm just ready to get out there again, eager to learn more about this hot weather fishing.

My brother went on Friday night and only had about ten keepers. I was with them when they cleaned them the next morning and their stomachs were full of shad. I don't know how some of them could have eaten anything else. For some reason, it seems the fish may have eaten earlier in the day.
