Default Good Trip to Mark Twain

Spent three days at MT earlier this week (Mon-Wed) and I shouldn't have worried about the falling lake levels, stained water or the temps. The fishing wasn't fast and furious - but it was steady. Really couldn't pick up on any one pattern that was better than the others. Most of my crew relied on minnows, but I hate minnow fishing! So primarily tightlined tube jigs or cast sliders. No real color preference - most used blue/white or black/chart with orange heads on the tubes, or white with Chart tails and white with Pink tail sliders. Pitching sliders on plain gravel banks was my favorite.

The other guys were either tightlining minnows or pitching them under fixed or sliding corks and mostly 3-5'. Mon the temps started out upper 50s and climbed into lower 60s - but by wed it stayed in the 60s and even got to 66! Found one spot with some shallow sets in about 2' of water and picked off several males.

Weird thing was - almost everything we caught was males - but they were some of the nicest I've seen out of there - with most running 10-12". I think Tue we cleaned 5 limits and had two females. The girls we cleaned weren't close - but they should be moving in soon - or you could find them skattered but staged nearby. Really seemed like you just had to keep moving and searching. Picking up 1 or 2 here - 2-3 there. They seemed to be the most stacked up on the main lake cuts with junk at the backs of the cuts. Really need about another 5 feet of water....

Lots of folks with limits at the cleaning station and it seemed like everyone was finding fish - and universally they were nice! (and all males) - very few smaller fish caught.

Anyway - hope it helps. Good luck and tight lines (I suspect the cooler temps and rain, might slow things down a bit)

    slider fishing!

caught quite a few of these little 'ditch pickles' too...
