Walleye have thicker meat on their fillets. When cooked right it flakes off in quarter size nuggets depending on their size. It's just meatier to me. More fish less batter. I think it's a bit sweeter tasting too. Maybe it's just the Bull Shoals fish I catch. They have to be over 18" to keep there.

Below are sampling data from Missouri’s walleye lakes. The density rating (DR) is a relative measureof the number of walleye in a lake over 15, 20, and 26 inches. The order the lakes are in is based on aformula that takes into account the data and biologist’s rating.Electrofishing was used to get the data, andsmaller lakes are usually easier to electrofish and find walleye on dams andshorelines during spring sampling.Somelakes are also sampled more frequently than others. This is by no means the exact ranking of thelakes, but just some fun to look at and debate. My pick for best walleye lake in the state is Mozingo. However, I know of several limits that cameout of Smithville and Stockton as well.Proposedchanges to the current walleye plan could mean more walleye stockings in yourfavorite lakes in the near future.

Good info right there! Any reason Mark Twain was left off or was sampling not performed there?

Fond Du Lac (south tip of Bago) is about an hour and a half from Albany. I've heard of good things coming from Lake Koskonong (Rock River) however, we fished it for a full day and I'm not too proud to tell you, we landed one short walleye. If I'm in the mood for walleye up here it's Bago or Poygan.

Small world, Albany is about an hour from my house.

Dad still lives in Quincy however, we have a cabin and ground on Route U and he spends A LOT of time over there year-round. With open water here to stay (down there anyway) I bet he'll be out soon. Had him up here last weekend for an ice fishing adventure.

Like I told Speck, with me up here in Wisconsin, I'm sure he'd love to take you guys out...... as long as you like to drink beer and catch fish.

I'll be up soon as daughter is preggers with second son and just moved into newer old house and lots of little things for Papa to do for her.

Uh drinking beer and catching fish? is there any other way to do it? usually save my beer drinking for the fish fry afterwards.

    Speck,

Maybe we should look into a group trip to Wisconsin or Minnesota etc.

I have seen on the Smithville lake Facebook page that people catch them pretty good at Smithville and at Longview during the spawn. I tried Smithville and saw a few but couldn't get them to bite.
