Just put a Minkota Maxxum 70 on my Bass Tracker replacing a 12 volt MG and I will never look back. I can fish all day and charge two batteries is less time than it took to charge one. The infinite speed is what I am most impressed with. The MG was a 5 speed, and there were always gaps that I couldn't fill.

I've got the Minn Kota I Pilot on the front and Motor Guide on the back. They both have there place and both perform well, I like the Motor Guide for long line but use the Minn Kota for everything else. I think both units are good which ever one you choose.

There is a Minn Kota Maxumm 80 on CG over in Linn, MO. $500.
The best way to get to where you want to be in the future is to act like you are there TODAY.

I have a motorguide on my boat and it has plenty of power and lasts as long as I do, but its noisy and has been since I got it. I have another mg on for my jon boat, much smaller, but just as loud. My next one will be a minkota unless mg does something really great between now and when I'm ready to buy a new one. The mount on the one on my bass boat is really noisy too. Meaning that if the motor is turned any direction but straight forward or backward, and I just bump it, it shakes back and forth and is loud and irritating. I'd tighten it up, but it's pins and E-clips. The boat/motor/mount is only a couple of years old.

Guess someone has to be different. Just bought the new x3 very quiet none of the jerking when you apply power. Foot control very easy yo operate. Cant say how sturdy the shaft is as havent hit anything. Other motor guides ive owned had no issues with..

If you want a cable steer I have a Minn Kota Fortrex 24 volt, 62 inch shaft, 80 pound thrust that's been used twice for 800 bucks.

I decided to get the Minn Kota Edge 55lb. Thanks for the sale offers but I only have a 12 volt system. I got mine new for $509 flat with free shipping from a factory outlet website with a $55 mail in rebate. Hasn't arrived yet wish me luck! I had a Motorguide that worked good but I broke it very stupidly, don't ask.

Along these same lines, what is everyone's opinion on iPilot when in a crappie/spider rigging situation. Seems to me that this would be a sweet way to go but I'm not sure how well it would work in the real world?
