I do HVAC commercially/residentially. You said it will fire but won’t stay lit? If so, it’s one of two things. Your flame sensing rod or there is a problem in your board. Flame sensing rod is the most common. It builds up scale and cannot produce the milliamperes voltage needed to “prove a flame”.

If you have a volt meter I can tell you how to check that. If not, I’d be happy to come out and check it.

(You aren’t looking for a handout, I’m not looking to gouge)

Hope it was the flame sensor. They are cheap and easy to replace. Thought I needed to replace mine last year when it was exhibiting the same symptom and ordered a new one. Went to install it and found out that the wire going from the sensor to the board had been pinched in the cover and it cut through the insulation and was shorting out the signal. When I re-insulated the wire the problem went away.

Some times you can just use a paper fingernail file and clean it.

I did all that. All sensors and switches are good. His control board is bad. Getting the part from Trane today and replacing it tomorrow.
