Default Lakeview Lake - 2-5-2011 - Fishing on Borrowed Time?

With the temperature reading 31 degrees and winds reported to be 11-15 mph out of the southwest I decided to check out my boat for the upcoming fishing season and to see what was going on with Lakeview Lake now that this PUBLIC lake has fallen under the control of PRIVATE investors who have apparently purchased around 10,000 acres surrounding this lake.

I learned from the baitstore that the new private investors have agreed to honor the current 2 year lease the baitstore had negotioated with Belz Enterprises to operate but there is now a 2 month termination-of-lease notice attached.

They have had to close the fish market which was their main source of income and combined with their newly shortened retail season (Feb thru Oct.) they have had to raise the boat launch fee to $7.

Sadly, I was told that once the baitstore closes, then all public access to this public property will be denied.

I simply don't understand how our government can allow our PUBLIC lake to become a private lake simply because they can't or won't guarantee PUBLIC ACESS TO OUR PUBLIC PROPERTY.

Anyway, enjoy the lake while you can.

Then that would explain why the public can lose access to this lake. Still it's a shame. Hope you don't mind bumpin elbows with me on Butla shortly...

I told y'all so! Funny how just before the group of investers bought up the access, the state stocked over 50,000 hybrid bass.(I may be wrong about the actual number, but it was a bunch.) I smell something "fishy" about that deal. I also don't think the state stocks private waters. It has always been my understanding that "Lakeview" is public water the same as Flower lake, surrounded by private lands.

Your probably right on this but if the water is public and all the access ( land surrounding) is private owned then we are no better off. I think the State ought to do the Imminent domain thing and buy some land for public access.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

    Default I've got a solution

Being the aunt-tra-pa-newer that I am, I present to you ES's heli-crappie service. Since the water is still public, we'll air lift you on in there.

Of course you will have to pay me the $7 launch fee.

Maj, you lookin for some side work?:D

I sent a detailed email before Christmas to our local state senator explaining the need for legislative assistance in keeping the oxbow open to the public. This is the same state senator who was the biggest proponent of the new city that was being planned outside of Walls last year. Surprisingly, I received no response from him. Follow the money...
