Enjoyed reading your report. I have heard that coots taste terrible.
Got to the river about 8 AM and started fishing with Minnnows and jigs all this is fron the dock! The bite was very slow as I only caught 4 Keepers till noon. After lunch (Sandwich) things got a little better and I caught about 4 more along with 1 Bass,1 drum,2 War mouths, and a coot!Ha I was walking the dock with my jig rig and had the other rod out with a minnow on it and it was down about 6 foot on a bobber,Well my rod started to bend and I thought I had a big bass,Finally reeled it in and it was a coot!He stayed below the surface till he got close to me.He had got the minnow and had the line tangled around his wing and the hook was barely in his skin.Well he was not happy at all He pecked me several times as I was trying to free him.I was glad to get him off my line as he wasn't a happy camper at all.First time I ever caught one of them!!I wonder how he would taste???
Well My Old buddy came by and helped me get my limit so that was nice of him.
Looks like bad weather rest of the week! I will try again next week! That's all folks!!! Bill

Life is good. Fishing is better.
This is the second time today I have read about someone catching a coot. I have never seen that before. Dont think I would want one on the end of my line. Thanks for the report.
I know a seagull is the fight of your life on 10lb test.

One day last week my brothernlaw went to Guntersville and fished. It was getting very late in day and almost time for a spot light but he was headed in. He notice there was many coots in his path on the water that flew up and it was blocking his vision. About that time he ran into one of those huge bouys down there and hes pretty lucky they wasnt hurt or thrown from the boat. It did do over 4k damage to his boat. He didnt catch one on his line, but still hates them none the less.lol
Hal, when I was in my teens I used to surf from Daytona down to Sebastian inlet. We got to Sebastian one day and the waves were flat, so we kicked around for a while and went up around the jetty. There was a pelican wrapped up in what had to be 20 or 30lb mono, and was getting worse by the minute. It took the 3 of us to get him under control and get the line off of him, and he was missing a bunch of feathers when it was all done. You're right, those things are tough. Caught him under a towel to begin with and he didn't like that at all. And he didn't even say thanks. I love to watch them fly the surf line, too cool.
