    Default Bad starting battery?

My starting battery works great...sometimes. It also sometimes acts like a dead battery when trying to start the motor. If I move the starter to the tm battery it starts right up. I get home and put the charger on it and it reports 80% charged. This has happened on 2 outings now. New boat, motor, and batteries.

I’d pull it and take to an auto parts store to have it tested. Might have one or more dead cells in it. If it is a lead acid have you checked the cells to see if they aren’t dry?

It is lead acid but sealed. I will have it tested at Advance Auto. Good idea!

Load test will not always show a bad battery ( don`t ask ) charge the battery check voltage unhook everything let it sit for a day or two check voltage if less then 12.6 or 12.5 volts it`s on it`s way out.

The load test failed right away. New battery is installed and waiting for Mondays test trip.

My plan is to catch stripers. If the motor doesn't start this time I will throw the stringer off the bow and get a tow back to the ramp. Kinda like a midwest version of a dog sled. Bad starting battery?Bad starting battery?
    Thanks guys!

FYI, some maintenance free batteries can be checked for fluid level. Sometimes the caps are covered with a sticker or the caps are so closely installed its hard to see the cells. Glad you found the issue, good luck w your trip.

    Silver, two questions:
    1. how'd the new battery do?
    2. Did the stripers bite?
