    Default Bass tracker

I'm thinking about buying a new pro 170 bass tracker. Wondering what owners or previous owners think about this boat. I'm 62 years old and mostly fish by myself and from what I've seen of this rig it is somthing I would have an easy time handling but nice enough my wife may take an occasional ride with me. I'm not looking for speed so I'll probably go with the 40 HP. What ya'll think.

I have the older model pro 16 bass tracker. Mine doesn't have the raised decks like the new ones. My wife and I seem to feel safer with the lower floor than the raised deck but that's just me. I love the one that I have and only a 25 hp. Johnson motor it gets really good gas mileage being a smaller 2 cycle outboard. I mainly use the foot control trolling motor anyway. Mine is a 1991 model and has never leaked any water so far. The pro 17 being bigger and the 40 hp. motor would be real nice and the package deals have a lot of extras( remember to make them throw in a spare tire). Tony if it caught your eye and you like it I would say buy it now. The way everything is going up in price... well you and me ain't going to get younger so enjoy it while you can.

I have the TX (or XT)17...love it for what I do. Would like it to be wider, but when the wind gets too 'up', I get off the water. Not sure how wide the Pro 170 is. I like the raised deck for my new found love of spider rigging, and if your boat will accommodate it, I'd step up to the 50 HP, four stroke motor (Yammie on mine). VERY quite. VERY smooth, and VERY good on gas. Just sayin............

If this particular model has the raised platforms front and rear like my 2004 PT175 I had, I grew very tired of climbing over the seats to get to the rear of the boat, or leaning over the seats to reach a rod holder. The step up to the front platform was pretty high IMO, and then when it was windy or waves from other boat traffic the rocking motion, sitting up front was like being on a swing to me. Being up on the pedestal seat with the waves just seemed to make the boat react a bit more. The seats are low and were hard for me to get up and down. I'm 59, 6' 200 #.

I cannot say one bad word about the PT175 from a mechanical point of view, no problems at all with it. My PT175 was easy to tow, launch and load all solo as I fish solo myself.
I suggest you look at the Tracker Super Guide 16V, a deep V hull with a decent amount of room for 2 people, and you should be able to fish any style from it with comfort and easy to move around in, and should be easy to handle solo as well. GL
    GO BIG ORANGE !

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

I had the Pro Team 165, 2000 year model. It was flawless for 15 years. I just sold it for the very reasons cited above. I grew tired of running back and forth from the console to the front deck every few minutes and a couple of my friends had gotten too unstable on their feet to feel safe climbing up on the rear deck. So I finally talked myself into getting a stick steer boat. I have always been leery of the rough ride if the wind was up, but I decided I would just be more mindful of conditions for the sake of comfort. I am just getting the boat ready to hit the water so only time will tell if I made the right decision.
Spent many great days in the 165 and had no problems with it whatsoever. I did swap out the 25 Merc (which also ran perfectly) for a 55 HP Yamaha and it added a good bit of kick to the boat at the expense of gas mileage.

My wife is saying the same thing, go get it. I may go to BPS this afternoon and look at what I am thinking about. I have spent most of my life on some kind of boat or another, from a sixty ft. Shrimp boat to a 24 ft. Net skiff. But all my recreational fishing has been out of a 14 to 16 ft. Jon boat. I think I'm going to climb in that pro 170 and see how I like it and then I'll need to be able to rig it for multiple pole fishing. I know my wife, Kathy, likes it already.

Bought the boat today, pro 170 with 50 HP Merc. Will be picking up later this week and will start outfitting for spider rigging.
