Default Loud beeb from My 04' Pt 175 Tracker

I bought the boat last Fall, it has a 40hp 2 stroke mercury engine, Sunday I fished a idle only lake, trolling most of the day, then decided to call it a day and idle about 2 miles back to the ramp, when I was slowing to enter the ramp, I heard a loud beep coming from the dash! I looked through the owners manual tonight and cant find anything, but it seems like I read something last Fall that it is some type of a warning, first thing I thought of was My oil resevoir was low, but I still have half a tank. The boat seemed to run fine, although it was cold in the morning and it seems to be cold natured. I am sure there is a easy explaination just not sure what it is! Thanks ahead of time

I think the only two things that will cause the buzzer to alarm is the oil resevoir like you mentioned........ or the temp alarm, you could have picked up some debris idling that long...........

A steady beep indicates over heating. An intermittent beep is an oil problem.

Well it beeped only once for a split second. The lake is shallow, and water was cloudy from a recent rain, so it may have been a overheating issue, hopefully it will sound again if it gets hot.

I would not ignore the alarm it is telling you something.............When is the last time the water pump impeller was replaced? If it has been more than two years I would pull the foot and replace it, When a impeller starts to get worn it will not pump enough water at idle, then as rpm's increase will increase suction and pump better. Until it wears more then you are stuck on the water............

I ran into a problem where a sycamore leaf got stuck on my intake, horn sounded, shut it down, checked oil pulled motor up...
Started it back up, been running ever since, I think the big old leaf obstructed the flow enough that it wasn't getting enough water.

Well I just bought the boat last November, its My second boat. I did all the normal maintenance things except replacing the water pump, although when I bought it I made the guy run it in a barrel and saw it peed water well, and still does. I was planning on having a mechanic go over it this Winter, hopefully the intake just got clogged as the last poster mentioned. Next time I take it out I will pay attention to the water flow (pee) and if the alarm sounds again, I will run the trolling motor until I can install a pump, I am not done fishing for the year, the water temp is just now getting under 60 here. Oh yeah I had said it was a 40 hp merc, it is a 50 hp 2 stroke if that matters at all. Thanks for the help

Impellers can wear to the point they still pump water but not the volume needed to keep the motor cool. Especially at low RPMs.

I would for sure plan on replacing the water pump, as far as you know it could still have the original impeller in it............In case you have never seen it done here is a video of a water pump replacement on a 50 hp merc. there are 3 parts to this video.........
If you have reasonable mechanical skills and what I consider a basic tool set, you can do it yourself and save the money for other fishing stuff! it's not difficult at all to do........
