    Default steering wheel play.

Have a 99 tracker 18.5, need info on taking the play out of steering wheel. Been under consule and can't locate any adjustment. Any ideas?

This just has the single cable, not sure it's really a cable. The play is in the wheel not at the engine. It's hard to see up in the consule and I don't find any kind of adjustment.

Sure it's not hydralic steering? If so, you need to add fluid to the steering which Is found on the very center of column,, remove nut and install hydralic fluid for marine type boats,,, or if need be,transmission fluids works in a pinch,,,and a lot cheaper to boot,,,

No it's not hydraulic, Just have single cable, has to be a push-pull, or rack&pinoin. I don't think there is any adjustment. May be replacement is the cure. If that's the case the play may get worse before it gets better.

I think that you already know the answer. I can't think of any play adjustment on any I have seen. I would want to go on the safety side of this. Steering on a boat and brakes on a car, both gotta work without fail.

Make sure where the cable bolts to the motor the arm is not loose. Several trackers I have seen the arm wears out over time. Depending on how old the boat is the cable may be past the service limit. There were no adjustments on my tracker. Had to replace mine due to the cable seizing to the housing. Replaced with a teleflex. Has worked flawless since installation 2 years ago.
