    What’s your definition of a “dipping rod “ ?

I like to use the Lews Wally, Marshall, WSA 75 reel. Very good quality and runs about $32.

I'm running shimano fx 2500s on all my crappie rods. For $19.98 at walmart you can't beat them in my opinion.

For dipping rods I like a cheap bait casting reel. Brand does not matter to me because it is simply a line holder.

I have used bait casters for the longest. Thinking of switching over to these simply because smaller, less weight and price is right:

If you plan on doing some pitching too then get a spinning reel. I recently found these and blow my Flueger and Piscifun reels out of the water and at a fraction of the costs. A 1000 series can be had for $20.

Thats funny, those are what i was last looking at. I was contemplating stealing my inline ice reels and trying those, then late last night I was on amazon looking at those cheap reels.

My only hesitation with the ice reel is that they do like to backlash, or run away really, if the tension isnt set correctly or you do not palm them. Heck i still might try it.

I used baitcasters last year, didnt like having to flip the rod or reel backwards to pick up line. Before that i used pflueger president spinning reels and they would reel themselves when flipping/dippin so constantly had to pull more line though the drag which was annoying since I like my drag cranked down on these rods.

I guess my other, not so exciting, option is to cut the handle/reel seat off them and put on a hybrid or normal reel seat and go back to baitcasters. Theres a finger groove currently that makes it annoying to try and use the rods "upside down" with a baitcaster, although they do fish that way just fine with how the guides are. Real like the rods, not a fan of the handles. I build rods though so it isn't too big of a deal

I guess you mean a jig pole. ?
I use Slater’s pole reel from Grizzly jig on all my long poles. They have a good adjustable spring tension. Never had one back lash.

Dropping a jig or bobber/minner straight down into structure, usually lay downs and shore based structure.

I'd want a reel heavy enough to balance the rod, otherwise your wrists are gonna take a beating if you're holding that rod in hand for long periods of time.
