    Default Jig eye not closed

Has anyone else having this trouble ? I use 6 lb mono all the time. Never had a problem with line slipping out of eye. Let me say I don't use painted heads. But never had this problem until a few years ago. Iost a big fish Saturday with line slipping out. Not coming untied. Loop still tied . Tried closing with pliers but no help. Any ideas?

I've had it happen a couple of times. Now I inspect the eyes and give them a squeeze with pliers if they aren't closed.

Yes, Ive had this problem with unpainted jigs. I try smashing the eye more closed with needle-nosed pliers but I just got set up to paint my own heads. The paint covers where the line slips thru so I hope I can concur that problem.

When I get jig heads with a gap in the eye I apply a small amount of Sally Hanson Hard as Nails to the gap and let it dry. HaNs is available at most of the discount beauty supply and drug stores.

I got rid of that problem years ago. I get all my jig heads out of Japan. They all have closed eyes and that is right up my alley when using lines as small as 0.95mm in diameter. Makes one wonder why aren’t all jig heads made with closed eyes.

Fished with a friend last week on the Big O. He lost several fish as a result of the eye of the jig not being closed. 6lb test line. Fish and jig gone, loop knot still completely intact.

the quality of the jigheads is in play , some of the jig hooks out there are just not the best quality .
if you think 6 lb test will slip thru one easily ,try some of that thin as a hair braid line for an extreme bummer .....
sometimes a squeeze will fix and sometimes not and to be VERY sure sometimes that mini gap will cut mono too ....

Yep, I've been having some slip. I've been using "Crappie Cookie" jigheads because they're made locally and because they're one of the few 1/24 ounce heads I've been able to find in shops around here, but occasionally the line slips through the eye. In fact, I was just about to "shoot" a jig under a dock yesterday when it inexplicably happened, leaving me with the jig in my left hand. I do like those jigheads though (right size hook and a metal barb that holds plastics pretty well), so I put up with the rare inconvenience.

I have had the same problem. I have tried several ways to work around this situation. Having lost a few good catches , not to mention having the jig go flying off into the water after spending a few minutes trying a new jig on just to see it fly away on the first cast. . I have tried squeezing it closed, applying super glue, painting with nail polish, and even using a slightly larger mono leader when using braid. maybe one day I can remember to buy the brand that actually is made with quality.

Here's an idea. Tie on an improved clinch knot with a larger test string. Pull real tight, then clip off the string above the knot. Slide it around towards the space in the hook. Maybe even glue it with something. That should still leave enough room for a loop knot through the eye. I never tried this, just thought about it. "D"
