Rare to see Sharks and Crappie swimming the same waters but no rain means salinity levels are so high they are looking at barging fresh water to the communities below New Orleans to combat the Saltwater Intrusion in the mighty Mississippi River. The Pearl is getting a very much needed shot of saltwater to kill back vegetation which grew with the 5+ years of constant tropical systems hitting the Central Gulf Coast. Normally big Crappie don't have a predator to worry about but they do right now all the way up in Honey Island Swamp. This little hole I was jigging in produced a monster amount of big Slabs because of the cover it provides. I broke one of my 8wt Fly Rods swinging the fish in the boat as they were rising to within 1ft of the surface to eat my jig. I have developed a unique way to present a jig in it when you do get a fish on the hook you boom them out as fast as you can. This box of fish was caught out of just 3 of these holes.
Rojo Grande 8wt fly rod with 10# Slick8 Power-Pro braid, hand poured 1/32 jighead with a #2 Matzou Sickle hook, and scrap Bobby Garland Baby Shads. I say Scrap because I have a Tupperware I throw leftover bodies that were laying on the deck. They dry out and get dirty. The Tupperware has Slab Sauce and Plasticizer oil in it. I drop the bodies in regardless of color, give the container a shake and leave it for later in the bottom of the boat soaking flavor. All natural colored BGBS bodies were used in catching these fish cleaning out the container for me without waste.
Wow! Great success on your outing sir! Congratulations and thanks for sharing

Nice catch on the slabs. I fish the Cooper river in South Carolina freshwater side for crappie and blue gills/ shell crackers but this time last year there were 2 porpoises stayed in the back river for a week that l fished there eating the shad bait-balls were in abundance.

It's not the numbers or the size, it's the time spent on the water!Rojo LIKED above post
Nature always has surprises in store! Sharks and crappie sharing waters is quite a spectacle. Your innovative approach with leftover bodies and Slab Sauce is . Any tip for fellow anglers trying to navigate these unique conditions?
