Default Anyone ever fall out of a boat? (C'mon, one of you musta at one time or other)

Warning: long account some may find too long but others may get a laugh reading.

What I didn't mention in my last post about taking too much stuff was that I fell into the water. Bad enought getting soaked, but losing my wallet from my back pocket was far worse!

As you know, a 11.5' jon boat isn't the most stable platform when standing while fishing. I have been doing so for years and for the life of me I can't figure how I lost my balance. The boat didn't tip over and lose everything, so at least that's one thing (most likely due to the heavy trolling motor and battery).

The other thing was that I was in water 4.5' deep and once I found the bottom and could stand, so it was just a matter of finding a way of getting back into the freak'n boat! Crawling over the side - not an option. Walking the boat to the nearest shore through pads - NOPE. Jumping off the bottom over the bow and pulling myself in - BINGO!
Guess I should be thankful I wasn't in 10 FOW.

But, and it's a big but - what about the wallet lost on the bottom?!!! All kinds of cards and documents (fishing lic., vehicle regis. cards, driver lic., insurance cards (medicare, health, perscription), credit cards not to mention 80 bucks in cash, tends to make a grown man cry and just go home. All that stuff has to be replaced sooner than later! Connecting to all the agencies to get that stuff back is a bigger challenge than fishing and takes forever!... (my sole activity most of today.)

What started out as a beautiful day turned to crap! Next time I'll do what I always do: keep the wallet hidden in the truck and make sure I stay in the boat!

Did I mention, I also broke a rod going over and need a new cell phone. Somehow I was able to fix the rod today (in between phone calls) using nails in the blank, Gorilla tape and electrical ties. Forget the cell phone even after drying out after 12 hours. (The $80 replacement sucks!)

Morale of the story: if you gotta fall out of a boat, do it in shallow water for Chrise sake! Better yet, don't fall out of a boat!

Had a buddy step off the side of the boat while bowfishing. As soon as he got back on board and I knew he wasn't hurt, big laugh party.
Did flip my boat once and fell out. But that's a longer story

Done it twice in my life.

Fell out of a one man plastic boat as I was trying to get out of the boat and onto the dock, back when I was a teen. Couldn't swim worth a crap, but was close enough to the dock to grab hold of the dock's water spigot, after floating along in the current of the river for 20ft or so.

In my 20's I was night fishing for Bass with a friend and turned in my seat, rod in hand, and spun myself over the side. I had the presence of mind to grab the gunnel as I entered the water, while still holding on to the rod. Hiked myself back into the boat and proceeded to undress and wring out my clothes, put them back on and continued to fish for awhile. Eventually getting a bit chilled, I went back to the car & disrobed again & laid my clothes out on the floorboard and turned on the heat. I let my friend keep on fishing, in the meantime.
When it came time to leave & trailer the boat, I backed in too far & flooded the back floorboard. I pulled the car out, and luckily there was a small tractor there, so we hitched the trailer to the tractor and trailered the boat. Even then, my friend had to get out into the lake up to his knees/thighs in order to get the boat on the trailer and winched. That may have even been the night I got all the way there & realized I'd left my tacklebox at home, and went back and got it before we even started. (1.5hr round trip) And to top it all off ... we never caught a thing

Was frog gigging out of the front of a boat to big to be using for that purpose. Convinced my wife to drive as I gigged. Saw a nice frog deep in the weeds and knew it was gonna be mine. Had a pole about 7 foot long which was a foot too short. Made a stab at the eyes staring at me and out the front of the boat I went. Landed face down in the weeds but had the frog on the end of my gigging pole. The boss has never drove me gigging since

I've only done it once, but I was duck hunting not fishing. I was jumping out to pick up decoys when I hung a toe. Face first into 3' of cold water while wearing waders and a coat. Thankfully Texas cold isn't too serious most of the time. Unlike Spoonminnow, I didn't break or lose anything except a bit of dignity as my buddy laughed his behind off.

I fell n after hitting a submerged stump. I was looking over the bow as if I was the figurehead on an old sailing vessel. BLOOP in I went. The other time I was doing scuba cast and recovery operations after parachuting into the North Sea. Hit a rogue wave and in I went. Glad I had a wetsuit cause that water is brutally cold. I ain’t lookin to do it anymore iffn I can help it.

    Good thread spoonminnow.

Turned canoe over a time or two and fell in the boat but not out of boat.
Foot slipped off dock floor and one leg fell between boat and dock with skin peeled off shin. Ouch it hurt.

It's not the numbers or the size, it's the time spent on the water!

I've feel in once a long time ago fishing with two others in a 16 foot jon boat. Not sure what happened stood up next thing in the water. Luckily nothing in my pockets and two other's helped me back in. Like you we were in shallow water.

In my big boat the very 1st thing I do is put my keys, phone, wallet and pistol in my storage box with lid latched tight.

In my two man I usually put the stuff in my tackle bag, after thinking on it may not hurt to have a floating tackle box. If I ever turned my small boat over the heavy tackle bag would be on the bottom in about 2 seconds with all that stuff in it.

That losing the wallet sounds like the worst part of it. I could only imagine how much a pain that is. Glad you didn't get hurt and got a lesson out of the incident. It can all happen in a blink of an eye.
