Inexpensive Face Lift

While I admit that I could probably use one, that’s not what this is about. I’ve had a couple of 9’ rods that I troll with that are a product of the way quality is going these days. First off, I love the rods action and everything about them except the handles. China now builds some handles from a foam form and then adds a cork veneer that’s very thin and not real durable. I found this out when trying to wash another one and the veneer started coming off. So in the pics below you’ll see what happens when that starts. I can build a new cork handle for it but that’s a lot of work. So a while back I found a rod that I rebuilt and use in salt water. When it was found it had this covering on the handles and while I didn’t like the color and cut it off to find pristine new cork underneath. What I’m talking about is a slip over, shrink wrap handle cover that I bought through Mudhole rod and tackle building supplies. The cost was negligible at around $12 and the results are just what I needed. The pics kinda speak for themselves so I’ll stand aside and let them talk. And install is simple.
