Shakespeare sigma is what I had and they were good enough for about $20 or so each used on ebay.

I like both spin and bait caster. The low profile BC are nice and easy to stow in a rod transport rack. The open face spinners with the large and long handles pose a problem. Closed face spinners twist my line to much. Grizzly jig has good prices on both, $25/30 and E-bay has some great deals.

I use the bait casters from Walmart for under 30 dollars. (RED). Academy has some bait casters on sale for 15-20 you may look at their web site

I use these reels pretty much as a line holder. I’m not going to muscle fish in trying to reel them in with these reels, but my spider rigging is usually under 18 feet deep. With 14 foot rods it doesn’t take much effort to swing the fish into the boat. Just my Which reel do you prefer for your spider rig rods??

I use spinning reels because of the balance, what I mean is the bait caster reels are on top of the rod while reeling and can get awkward while fighting fish. The spinning reels hang on the bottom of the rod and are much better balanced when handling the rod for casting, just letting line out or fighting a fish. I am a big Abu Garcia fan and use the 200 series reels which are very cost effective. I see a lot of guys use bait cast reels and like them, it's a matter of preference.

I use spinning reels. For me their just a line holder. Look at grizzly jig co. They have some close out spinning reels starting @ $6.99. I know spinning reels have came a long way in the last 15 years. 2 BB reels now are as good as the 6-10 BB We're back then.

For y’all that run baitcasters, how do y’all set the brake with jigs and lightweight baits? I’m gonna run the Abu Garcia Black Max reels so just curious on the setup. I’m new to the baitcaster world
