Has a collar that goes on the main shaft and snaps and locks in place.

Hoop is sturdy too, those who have fished with me will tell you it lays in the floor when motoring to the fishing hole, heck some days it stays there all day, ask Mike 123456789.

Today I saw a telescopic long handle dip net at Walmart. It was black plastic, and broken off where it connects at the handle. Claimed to be a "Folding Model". I believe I would pass on that one...

I made my telescoping dip net from a telescopic windshield washer handle and a short handle hoop.
Both found at Wmart for less than $30. I fastened the hoop to the handle using 2 pipe clamps. It has worked great for years.
I've picked up big cats and bass with it.

My opinion on the Jenko, I have a ego slider and it worked ok some times you had to fight it a little to get it extende out but I could deal with it, Then I got a Jenko it is so much lighter and easier to use and move around I really like it with that being said common sense tells you not to use it as a breaker bar when your changing a tire on your boat it is easy to see it wasn't designed for that. I also tested how much weight I could put in it and I had 5lbs in it but keep in mind if it broke I had to pay for the replacement so I went easy on it and I didn't go any more I know when I'm using it I will probably never be landing a 5 lb Crappie therefore I'm also not putting it under a 5 lb cat I like my jenko better than any I have had and therefore I don't mind babying it. For it is easy to use and I would hesitate to put it under a 3 lb Crappie u just have to learn to use it. Also on the big heaven made nets if you put them under a 60 lb cat fully extended and try to raise them there Breaking. I would go Jenko and learn to be easy with it.

Don't get me wrong, I hope you are happy with your purchase but you better not lift no 8 lb cat in the boat with it, flat fact. I had one I picked up for a buddy and tested the 2.
One thing I can say for certain is that this fall I caught a 6.48 lb largemouth while crappie fishing and used the Jenko net extended to get it in the boat. The handle will bend but it did not break. I've used this net for a while now and have been extremely happy with it. I also talked to Matt the owner of Jenko and he told me about the same test that Tony mentioned, he said they were tough on the net to see how much abuse it would take. I have no reason to doubt either of them.
