Screens fill with illusions at night. It is usually plankton rising and falling.
This is my thoughts on fishing brush piles at night. On my local lakes that cannot compare with the good crappie lakes. Will be catching fish off brush piles during the day and they will shut down after dark. I am thinking they get out of the pile and go roaming. I also think when evening turn into darkness the fish will shut down for a while to adjust for the change. I have been night fishing and the screen will be cover up with bait fish and bigger fish. Then little before the lightness comes up to start another day you will see the screen go blank. The bait fish and other fish will leave. Also think they are adjusting to the light before start feeding again. After setting there all night and by morning you can see all the activity happen away from your boat. I am usually to tire to fish in the morning but that would be an excellent time to trolled through this area. May it be pulling crank baits or jigs.

If fish have eyelids, they sleep!
That is kind of how I figured it played out. I need to just sit out there for an hour or two after dark to find out, I have never stuck it out that long on a brush pile. Not to mention I need some chem lights for my marker buoys so I can stay over the brush pile at night since I would not anchor on a brush pile. If I ever have the patients to sit there that long to find out, I will let the group know what happened.
Sunsets matter. Fishing is the byproduct hobby of waiting on the sunset.

the cover of darkness induces a roam for the food program , its the perfect scenario for them to ambush prey . so unless there is some kinda ridiculous amount of bait on your brush they will pack up and travel sometime around or before dark thirty , brush is a resting spot in the daylight most of the time
Night lights on the dock!!!!!!!! I use a combination of floating head lamps and leds. LEDs puts out more light and brings in more baitfish, but headlamps bring in a bait class of its own by attracting the bugs. I have a lot of dock fishing experience. Ima getting too lazy to take me boat out. The thrill of boat fishing is dwindling.
