I have 10/4 High Vis Braid on all of my Spider Rig Rods and I like it. If you are getting grooves in the eyes of your rods because of Braid then I suggest you get some new rods. I have braid for the sensitivity and I WANT that toughness in my line. I'm handling 5 and 6# Hybrids when I get em with ease.

I really didn't expect all the hate on Braid when I opened this thread. I would suggest this, Put Braid on a couple of your rigs and try it, as you can see from all of the responses it is each his own. You may like it, you may hate it. I'd try it at least.

I been using 30# power pro on all the rods, riggin and pullin. If Im on clear water I use a flouro leader. I think tangles are easier to get out with the braid,it doesnt seem to tighten up as much as mono.

I fish with mono on all my riggin' rods. I don't pull jigs, but if I did I'd go with mono there too. And mono takes the cake again for my casting/dock shooting rod.

For the jig pole (which is my primary weapon these days) it's braid all the way. I do fish a fluorocarbon leader on it. 10/4 Spiderwire to a 6 lb trilene 100% fluorocarbon leader. The sensitivity is awesome and I can get jigs unhung easily. I've never broke a rod or had it cut my guides and it does help when hooking the occasional striper or bass. The only downfall is how it wraps around the rod tip and gets wind knots. As aggravating as that is I don't think I'd go back to fishing mono on my jig pole.

To each his own, but I do think small diameter braid has a place in the world of crappie fishing. I'm not concerned with sensitivity as much on my riggin' poles because I'm watching my rod tips and the angle the line hits the water. On the contrary, sensitivity is everything to me with a jig pole.
Hooking up every chance I get!

15/4 Cajun Red braid on everything I use. On spider Rigs my Rigs themselves are tied with 12lb CXX mono and BPS Floro have had poles bent double with stumps and big cats and not broken a pole. That's why I use good bait casters with a good drag. Back off on drag and won't have a problem. Can't beat braid for jigging, so sensitive you can feel a minnow sneeze. I don't use any kind of leader with jigging or casting.
