This fall is starting off quite nice. We were catching a lot of small to medium size sacs earlier in the year but the quality has definitely improved lately! Been catching them up and down the channel from hwy 9 bridge to the Blockhouse on a large variety of jigs, mostly Bobby Garland. It's a beautiful place to catch big fish!

Way to go, Mike. Great catch. Congratulations! It looks low. Can you put in a boat at Chandlers? How is the salvinia?

Pastor, the salvania is mostly clear around the bridge (at least right now it is) and yes the lake is still in a drawdown but I hear they are closing the gates on Dec 4th (possibly forever) The channel is full of stumps right under the water's surface, so if you are not very familiar with the lake I would advise using great caution if you decide to motor out past the bridge area. I see many trucks with empty boat trailers at both sides of the bridge at Black Lake Lodge and Chandler's Camp so I assume you can launch at both. It is way to low to use Dixon's Launch still, the water will have to come up at least 3 or 4 feet.
On another note, I talked to a local fisherman on good authority that told me he heard from a local LDWF agent that they were getting complaints from duck hunters that the water is too low for them to hunt their duck blinds and that the dept. were considering not doing a drawdown again due to all the complaints. If they wouldn't have done a drawdown this year there would have been hardly any fishable or navigatable water on the lake right now and hardly any place to fish or duck hunt. If any of yall reading this post have seen the lake in the last couple of years you would see what I am talking about. I ask that anybody that fishes or hunts Black Lake or anyone that would like to see it continue to be a beautiful, productive fishery and wildlife habitat would you please call Region 3 dept. of wildlife & fisheries (318-487-5634) and thank them and let them know that without the every 2 or 3 year drawdowns that our lake would be completely over run with salvania and basically rendered unusable. I know some of yall probably get tired of hearing me complain about our salvania problem up here but if the dept. would do what they did this year every few years they will control the problem, probably not eradicate it but control it and yall won't have to hear me ask a few of yall to make a phone call. We are kind of at the mercy of what the state will and won't do for our lake and this could happen on your lake or fishing area one day. It's not often you get to call LDWF with a thank you and not a complaint.
Thank yall for anybody that helps,
Mike Flynn
Beautiful pics. great catch. Super post!! Now how old is the pup and what kind?
Looks to be a Siberian Husky of a couple months old. Beautiful dogs, my daughter has one. I'm about to trim it's tail for some jig tying material.
If you ever had thoughts of owning one this short video shows you exactly what you will get. If I didn't know better I would have thought they used my daughter's dog for the video.

Yes sir, that's right Mr. Gene, he's an 8 week old Siberian Husky. Thanks for the video! He's my wife's early Christmas present but I'm lucky enough to have a job that I can bring him with me every day and he's quickly becoming my buddy too.
