    Default Crappie fishing Lake Verret?

Coming down to spend time with friends. How deep is the lake? Anybody longline or drag crankbaits? Thanks.

The lake is fairly shallow 6' to 8' to most areas. I have never pulled crankbaits or long-lined but have been catching a few in crackerhead. Good luck

Shallow lake. Be careful when the wind picks up. Most sacs are caught in the canals off the main lake. Cat fish ing is good on the outside cypress trees. HTH

Yea, best bet is to hit the many lay downs in the lake..usually single pole tight lining or with a cork and jig..although live bait works well too..hope ya find them.

I would focus in lay-downs and dead stumps particularly the ones broke off at the waterline. These stumps tend to hold baitfish in and around the stump and the Sacs tend to hang around along with cats. This lake is a tremendous catfish fishery. Shiners will bring some action weather it be Sacs or Cats (mostly Cats). Black and Chartruse jigs with nibblets are a standard. Its a labor of love fishing these structures because one structure may hold a few Sacs and the next dozen won't. I spend much time on this lake and if you put I the time and "hang in there" (right Roger!) then you can develop a routine that's fairly repeatable. Also look for tops that are underwater with only a couple of limbs showing. Troll up to it and figure out how the tree is laying and just flip where the top may be even it looks like open water. Jig Poles and ultralite's with SLIP corks would be the choice for me. The wind will dictate where to fish on this lake. The lake is high right now which I love because you can fish closer in and closer to the shade.
Another tip, if you see a big hunk of Spanish Moss hanging in the water, try fishing around it. If you ever wonder why, then just raise a hunk of this stuff out of the water. There's a fish buffet living in that stuff. I've caught many fish doing this. Check out the Eagles, they're taking over the lake. Hope this helps and have a good trip. SLIP
