Default Newbie advice for KY lake?

    Hi all,

An old friend of mine is taking a trip to KY lake next week, and asked me for info. Since I have none, I came here!

Any general advice to help prevent a beginner from getting skunked on this lake would be greatly appreciated!

Have realistic expectations. The lake can be really tough for those not on it regularly. It's a beautiful lake and a great place top visit, but if you are looking for a spot to come and catch big numbers everyday, its may not be a great choice.

He definitely won't be expecting greatness, just more of- would like a chance at putting fish in the boat. Hes going with 3 other boats, but I've no idea what experience they have.

Unless they are experienced with using sonar/gps to locate and fish offshore wood cover or something like trolling crankbaits their best bet will be dunking minnows under bobbers around the marked state fish attractors and areas that they can find bushes in the very backs of creeks. That bite may not hold up a whole lot longer but have heard from people on both lakes that have great days this week on the bank.

    Thanks for the info!

"Marked state fish attractors" huh? What do these look like?

I know he doesn't have any experience with sonar, so unless the fellas hes going with are good with it I'd imagine they will be fishing blind.

They have a map on their website but generally they will be marked with a white pvc pipe or a white buoy with a fish symbol.
