From out of state
Hello Kentuckians, I am up here working for a couple months and am wondering if anyone can share any info on John J Audubon State Park.
I would hate to go buy out of state license and waste a Sunday off work. Are there any crappie there? Can they be accessed from the bank?

Fished John J all my life. Used to be some Crappie in there but you usually used to have a boat and drift through the middle of the lake. I haven't seen anyone fishing for them in a few years. Plenty of bluegills and some bass from the bank. There is a concrete walkway where they rent paddle boats in the summer. It is about 8-10 deep and is undercut under the walkway. there are some nice catfish that lurk under there. Talk to Mr. Kellen, he is park director and a nice guy. They did a lake survey a few years ago. If I find the survey I'll post it for you. Might be able to find some bedding fish to the left of the main building down by the lake. There is a cove that used to be the swimming area 20 years ago and used to be mainly sand with a max depth on 6 feet. Also ask about the pond back on the trail behind the museum. It used to be a honey hole for big bluegill if your willing to hike back to it.
