I fished Walnut Creek yesterday, as usual, had 1 keeper and no telling how many dinks. I must be doing something BAD wrong.

Let me guess... Peters and spider rigging?

I have my grand daughter today and tomorrow. I have a 3day weekend to fish. I am going to try and fish some new water. Maybe the place where I cut my teeth. Beaver Creek. I also saw where they are holding the water. That won't hurt any.

I bet I need to get up on the flats.

    We'll see.

    Nice bunch of fish! Congrats!

I will be fishing a spider rigging outfit next year. Seems like between deer, turkey, squirrel and coon hunting with dogs, then morel hunting on top of that I just haven't had the time to get set up for it. I can tell it's the way to go. Yall are wearing them out!!

It really depends on what type of fishing you prefer. Most of the time if fish are hitting minnows you can catch them on jigs. You can catch the same amount of fish in a lot less time on jigs IMO. You don't have to take the time getting minnows out of the bucket, putting them on etc. You can catch several fish on the same jig. For instance, went to Barren Monday morning and got there at 7:00am and had two limits (60) by 11:30am. Went Tuesday by myself and got there at 7:30 and had a limit (30) by 9:15, went Wednesday got there at 7:30 and had two limits by 12:00. Went this morning and got there at 8:30 and had two limits (60) by 12:30. Spider rigging is good and fun just depends on how you like to fish. Here is the fish from this morning, I had cleaned a few before I decided to take picture

What is the average size crappie you can expect to catch at Barren? I've been catching 10-15 throwbacks for every keeper on Kentucky.

This year is a good year for Barren. I have been catching probably 1 short fish for every 5 fish caught. It can depend on what spot you are on though. I fished a spot yesterday and probably caught 30 fish off it and had two keepers. The others spots I am fishing are mostly keepers. I had some friends at Ky Lake this past weekend and were trolling. They were using two counters. One counter was total fish caught and the other was keeper fish. The 279th fish made the 90th keeper.

I like throwing jigs at em myself, but I also like the madness of watching four rods at once and seeing them all go down at once! Alot of the fish we r catching would be hard to catch on a jig though because they aren't related to any structure! They r just suspended in 20 to 30 ft of water! Went back peters creek and caught a ton of short fish Tuesday! But alot of the fish we r catching in our main spot are 11 and 12 inch fish!

Your right about the suspended fish casting a jig, you wouldn't be able to catch those tightlining. We have been catching nice fish too. I think maybe it has to do with the high water the last couple years, but I don't know.
