    Default Milford 20-Jan-2013

Hit up Milford today with my friend Dave Anders after my ice fishing adventure to "Forkville" fell through when another buddy backed out. I caught a few white a small wiper in the boat ramp cove while waiting for Dave to show up, then we went to one my crappie spots but the crappie were not biting so we tried another spot and after marking some fish near the bottom in 23fow I felt the thump and it was fish on!!! Using my Loomis Mag-Lite with 4lb test and jigging an 1/8 oz pink jighead with a chartrues BG baby shad the fish was quite a handful!!! Turned out to be a nice wiper!!! We caught 25-30 wipers a piece with a few whites mixed in... but we never caught the crappie...Name: 270921_2771991476075_1901355909_n.jpg

Those look awesome! Dumb question and not exactly on topic, but do wipers taste good? Never heard of them in TN, although I just googled it and I guess TN is stocking some now.

Yes they are good to eat. Certainly no walleye but they are pretty good table fare. They taste just like a white bass. A lot of people cut the red meat out of them as the red meat has a stronger flavor. They are a more firm fish than a crappie. I cook them in beer batter and they are very good eating!

Did you catch all the wiper and white bass on crappie jigs? Nice looking fish!
