    Default Is it me!!!!

Up until early last week the lakes were on fire. Catching crappie, whites and walleyes every trip out. Throwing crankbaits and jigs off rocky banks, points and flats. Now I cannot catch a cold so the pattern has changed. Has anyone had the same problem and what has the pattern changed too? Mainly fishing Pomona and Clinton. I am seeing bait fish on the graph in the same spots just no hungry fish, I also have not seen any surface action like in the weeks past.

Same thing going on at Milford! I'm not sure if its the falling surface temps, the fact that they shut the outflow down, fishing pressure or a combination of factors? Was able to find a few keepers on the next deeper drop off/deeper piles, so maybe they are just moving deeper? Also there was very little wind so the lack of wave action/light penetration could have had an influence on the bite? Just my 2 cents!

I noticed this at Melvern this weekend as well. Had a tough time finding any fish that would bite. I did notice something I have not seen all summer though and that is schools of fish suspended within 50-75 yards of structures such as brush piles.
I am new to the fall pattern so I have some learning to do!

I am new to the fall fishing also. But after labor day the fish moved up shallow and have been for weeks. I thought they would stay up but they have moved out of the shallows. I think it may be the wind shifting every day. I like fishing wind blown points and the windy side of the lake and I think that with the wind not being out of the same direction two days in a row no bait fish is amble to follow the food source. I had great success at Melvern in the spring with this pattern and at Clinton after Labor Day. Looks like the wind is going to change direction everyday this week.

I got to do a little fishing last fall and caught a few crappie. At the beginning of November in 3-10 ft of water. So far I haven't been having any luck with crappie or anything the last couple of weeks in Milford.

The ticket this time of year, or what it has seemed to be for myself in Kansas, PA, and Ohio has been to go back over typical spawning areas and find the cover, they will be holding tight to it in as little as 8 inches of water. Movement seems to turn them off, but a nice long "noodle" rod is not needed but helps greatly. I've done this at Marion, KDOT West, and Eldorado here in Kansas, and even Milton, Mosquito, and the Ashtabula river in Ohio, it seems to be the way that I can catch crappie in the early fall without a boat and consistantly. I'm no expert and a lot of my fishing is trial and error but I do keep notes, they include things like water temp, depth, clarity, and patterns and let me tell you, 55-65 water and shallow cover calls for small jigs and tight SHALLOW cover in my book, every single day that I can get out there I will try this first before anything else. Hope that helped! Now get out there and hook a hog!
