    Found oout tonight that I have a crack in my lower unit. Not sure how it happened as I winterized it last fall but now looks like I will have to see if I can get it welded or find a housing.....what a monday. Sorry just venting

    Bummer, Sorry to hear that. I had to replace one several years ago on an old Chrysler and found an outfit in Fla. that had the best price completely rebuilt for $399. You probably only need the case so hopefully you can find a good price.

    There's a salvage yard in KC, one of the midwests biggest, I can't recall the name right now. On the flip side, at a minimum check your lower unit in the fall for water in the oil. It's actually best to just change it for reassurance. Also, when finished fishing drop your motor all the way down at the ramp while you strap down and get ready for the road. This will drain your motor of water. Also, to prevent other damages store the motor down if you store outside to prevent water build up in the hub. I feel your pain and was "lucky" to learn these lessons at a friends expense, he burnt his motor completely up because of the reasons I stated.

    If you think it can be welded. John Vestal welding in Kansas City, Ks. has welded up aluminum housings for me in the past with good results
