North banks with longer sun exposure warm up first. Find areas like this with wood and fish around the wood. Crappie can be in as little as 6" of water. Where do you go when you get cold and can't turn the heat up? The warmest room in the house? Crappie may be cold-blooded but they still migrate to the warmer waters. And they feel safer in thick brush as to their prey, minnows. Use long poles and minnows. And use a cover scent as well as wash your hands to avoid any offensive odors like Gasoline on your hands from fueling up the boat and vehicle. Gasoline in even trace amounts can turn off the fish. So clean your hands.
Use blade baits like road runners with tubes, Curley tails, any plastics or even a minnow on. The moving blades give off vibrations and even sound to attract fish in muddy water. So will the minnow if your into live bait. I stopped by Cabelas yesterday and splurged on a set of gortex camo rain suit that I can also use for hunting as I am tired of sitting on butt waiting the weather to change a bit and just going to say, screw the weather and wind and go whether I catch anything or not. If I can launch the boat in high water and mud, going to fish as long as long as the wind will let me.

I've often wondered if colognes/shower products on the hands turn off fish if on the baits. Gas is nasty, I can understand why they wouldn't bite a gas bait!
