    Default Lake Monroe Tournament Winners

    Tim Dunigan and Tony Williams.
Great Job guy's... These guy's were on vacation in Mexico on friday and flew in Saturday morning and drove straight to the lake to get their livewell checked on the water at around 9 am and then around 1pm their motor wouldn't start so they had to troll to the nearest boat ramp and either Tim or Tony's wife picked them up a drove them to their truck and trailer so they could drive back to the ramp where their boat was and load it up by hand... Of course poor Tim had wade in the 43 deg water to load it up.
They did all this and still made it back in time for the weigh in and win the tournament... CRAZY day on the water.
Goes to show you never give up!
They had over 9 pounds in 7 fish.

Congrats to the victors. I just wondered if anyone of you fellas had to hook weights to the lower fins to keep upright in your livewell or fizzing your fish to relieve the air sacs on your fish on Saturday. The cold last week seemed to put the crappie I've been catching deep and pulling them up and putting them in the livewell resulted in them immediately laying on their side. Just curious if any of you had that problem?

Actually Hog Daddy all of the winning weights came from 4' to 8' of water.... Last weekend they were all deep but they made a move with the water temps coming up 4 deg.

Interesting ...I wouldn't have thought it...however Friday was a great day and warm (67 air temp ) ...probably just enough to send some shallow by Sat.

Interesting you asked that HHD. Last Sat in practice I caught very nice fish in 42 Fow fishing about 35ft down. Put them in livewell to see what they would do. They were floating in seconds, they even had their swim bladders coming out of its mouth with a large shad in it. I didnt have any weights and clips in boat so I decided to do a test and see how long they would live in my livewell. Needless to say, I had to fillet 12.5 and 13" crappie by the end of the day. I also found a few small keepers shallow that day but not enough to win the tourney. So all week before tourney I scrambled around watching youtube vidoes and spending alot of time and energry trying to find a way to keep my fish alive for tournament.

I knew If I could catch 7 of those fish from practice and keep them alive all day for weigh-in, I would have a very good chance of finally winning a crappie tourney or atleast a top 3. After all the time I spent installing my new HB 1198, going to westside bait and buying 7 ice fishing depth weights, getting medical needles to fizz the crappie and staying at the host hotel so I wouldnt oversleep, I had not felt so confident in a tournament. My girlfriend and family was so excited for me and my partner.

I felt so good, I didnt even asked how practice went for the guys on fri before the tournament (not like they would be honest anyway) haha! I took my time getting to my spot tourney morning, once there I was marking a ton of fish. I felt even better now. Started fishing and started to catch dinks ( 6-7" ) crappie. Anyway long story short... We fished there 4 hours without a keeper, moved around the area knowing the big ones were still near without any luck.

I made a big move up the other end of lake to atleast have a chance to get a 9" keeper. Once there the wind changed direction and the temp fell fast. Mad at myself for wasting that much time but too late in the day to run back to my first spot. We fished hard all the way to stop time. Made the idle back to ramp very disappointed, frustrated and 0 keepers! I felt so bad for my partner Chester in hopes of having him weigh in a sack full of slabs.

Once again crappie fishing kicked my @ss when it counts the most!

Congrats to Tony and Tim for the win! and all the others who weighed fish. See ya next tourney.
