Default Question about a Bass Pro shop rod

I bought two Micro Light six foot, light action rods and I can't seem to get a good hook set with these rods. My old cheap Berkley Cherrywoods seem to be much more reliable at getting that hook set. Maybe Bass Pro Shop rods aren't that good? I paid 39.99 or so a piece and the Cherrywoods are half that price.

What would you guys recommend for an all around rod, bluegill, crappie, etc? I don't want a bass rod, can't stand bass fishing.lol. Money would be a factor, something that won't break the bank.

You need the medium-light action. I have a micro-lite for my grandson (5 years old) and he has no problems with his. If you just bought them, I would call and ask if you can exchange them. When you are ready for the purchase of the ultimate rod for crappie let me know and I will advise you of the best ones to purchase, with a life time warranty. Yes they are expensive but they will be your favorite go to rod.

6' UL, fast tip, Premier Series, St. Croix is the best rod for the money IMO ($85.00). The Triumph Series St. Croix is alot cheaper, so if $85.00 is breaking the bank, you won't be disappointed with the Triumph... it is a great all around rod.
Ask me about: Bobby Garland, CrappiePro, Yeti Coolers, Power-Pole, and Simms Products!

    Default Great Rods

I have changed my personal approach to rod purchases, broke a tip on a bass pro rod and they would not honor a warranty over a year. Now all of my purchases will be either a St Croix or a G. Loomis. Loomis warranties the rods for life, if you break it for any reason, bring it back and they will replace it.

I have a G. Loomis shop in town that sells the most of any store in the country (eBay), great selection as well.

My desire is to get a new micro lite Loomis befoe next January and going to Florida for a couple of months.

I had a cherrywood for several years, i loved it. I used it for crappie and smallmouth bass. Went out to the shed last spring and discovered the tip had been snapped off. Not sure how or when it happened. Anyways, i ordered an uncle bucks crappie spinning rod off bass pro earlier this year and it's what i have been using this spring. Nothing fancy, but the thing only cost me 9.99 on sale lol. Originally they are only 12.99. It's a 6 foot 6inch light action fiberglass rod. I've landed largemouth and one channel cat with it as well.

Cherry Wood is the way to go!! Im going to buy as many as I can afford when I go Bass Pro shops next month! Wal-mart also has them and I think their going to discontinue making them. Its the best $20.00 rod you can buy and if your like me it wont hurt as bad when you break it!LOL I cant buy those high doller rods, Theres no warrenty for the stupid things that happen!!
I still use one rod at a time!!

I felt the same way about high dollar rods as some of you guys, and thought I would never own one. My wife bought me a Kistler for my birthday last year, its a light action drop shot rod, and I LOVE it, use it for all kinds of crappie fishing. I also have a light action Loomis that I picked up on a clearance rack (still paid for it) but these are two of the best rods I've ever owned. You get one of these rods in the boat, and fish with it all day, you won't want anything else!!!! I have a couple micro lights in the garage, I never seemed to have any problem out of them. Fished with them for about three years, and didn't notice missing any fish.
