Anybody here have good size and numbers at Hardin last year?
I fished raccoon at least 30 times last yr and caught my limit 85% of the time study the lake while its down youll learn were 2 fish headed there tomorrow to ad some structure to the lake

Crappie fillet er, congrats on your success at Hardin last year, I often fish North of the 36 bridge and have made several trips out there in the winter to walk the bottom & snap some pictures, maybe even trespassed a time or two haha. Pickens were so easy at Cataract last year I wound up goin there a bunch (I think average size though raccoon has it beat). Glad your adding some structure, our lakes need it badly! Just don't get caught, it's illegal in good ol' Indiana be sure and get the GPS coirdinates and feel free to PM them to me if you like! :D :D Seriously though, we could maybe work out a deal for some of my top notch Big Hook Crappie Jigs

Chit, it seems more so at Raccoon than Cataract that the larger crappie (females?) are often just off the bank and out to the next drop off or staging area. I'm guessing it's because of the way the lakes are structured, Cataract has vast flats and Raccon seems more like a highland Rez. Even at that it's hard to find them for me at times, if you do please let me know where the're at!

I have never been there and would like to know if Raccoon is easily fished from shore or is it one of those lakes where boats are best?

Boats are always the best way to fish for crappie. raccoon lake has very limited areas to fish from the bank. I consider that lake to be my home lake since i've fished there for last 20 yrs. most of the shoreline is either private property or part of the raccoon park and campground which is open to the public. they do have boat rentals during the warm months. 5 boat ramps on lake. If you have a canoe, you can fish up the creek in the idle zone with very little boat traffic.

Hey Chill, I forgot to say congrats on the new Son! Was also gonna ask what campground you was refering to, state campgrounds or a private one you go to?

Uncle, Hardin (Raccoon) is a really nice lake, but wouldn't say there is a great deal of bank fishing as most of the land is private owned with nice summer homes. There is some nice places, mainly the riprap all along the 36 bridge on both sides, there's even a pull off parking lot on the east end of the bridge, other than that it's mostly the areas around the state launch ramps, the ramp in the state park has a public fishing area but it is quite populnice couple nice hidden places is by Walker ramp and up the creek at Portland Mill ramp. Theres also some public access above and below the dam, but overall I would suggest a boat if available, as you may be missing out on a lot of other good fishing areas.

Thanks for the info. I may have to look it over so long as there is some accessible shoreline. I do not have a boat, so do all my fishing from shore unless I rent, get a ride, or hire a guide.

    Fillet er,
Nevin's has power to each campsite and water spickets scattered around the campground. There is a shower house with pretty good showers (M&W) for a campground. That's the only hot water. Some guys set up tanks on top of their trailers for washin' dishes and stuff. But you got to haul your gray up to the dump station. There are out houses scattered around also. But alot of guys got toilets in their campers and haul their chit to the dump station.

Go south on Walker Ramp rd. till you see their sign and go west on the gravel road. These pictures are from when I first bought in 5 years ago.

My mooring spot is 75 yds down the path past the two trailers.

I got real lucky on my spot, it's pretty secluded as compared to the rest of the spots. Every year there is a spot or two for sale.

Gonna get off here and head to the Westside Fishin' Sale.
