    Default Old school time ....

knowing the spot you hunt and the patterns of the game and prevailing wind direction one might need to go old school from time to time . case in point I normally sit in a box blind on the other end of the opening in this photo , its a north wind set up . but knowing full well the wind might be southerly when I get to go I have this little nook I enjoy early in the morning sometimes . I have used this spot multiple times over the years and have had game so close in many cases it is beyond personal . one young second year bobcat stood directly under my gun barrel on its prop stick early one morning with the squirrels driving him nuts . the things that went thru my mind including touching its soft fur and even trying to get a photo still haunt me . I have had snakes crawl over my boots and birds land on my shoulder and skunks and rabbits and every critter you can imagine in extra tight in this lil old school set up .had a really large buck so close one time it was just a blur in the scope when I thought about taking him . behind me is a rock cliff and the wildlife pretty much refuses to scale it and that in turn creates a travel corridor right in front of this spot. camo head to toe and don't blink and sit like a pc a stump with rifle on ready on its shooting stick .....fun stuff to do
I carry in a camo chair when I sit this spot and only move my eyes .

Are you sure you don't like to turkey hunt any more? What you said describes me in the turkey woods every time I go. I'm happy being the tree I don't need to kill a bird to have a great day turkey hunting. The inner peace watching wildlife do their thing is supreme. Fresh wild game meat is just a bonus.

Good luck, be safe, and have fun.

I enjoy watching the turkey and to be sure I have a bunch this year out there but I aint likely to kill one . I love up close and personal on my hunts most of the time and typically try to set up less than 50 yards from where I think the game might pass . the serenity of the woods and countryside are the plus for me as well and of course the game animals just make it all that as well .

I prefer ground blinds over tree stands. This year I am using my camping chair as my ground blind, painted it camo to knock off the glare. My hunting clothes are hanging in the shed and Monday I am meeting with the guys to discuss final plans.

I also like to still hunt. For some reason I can smell the deer before I see them, and they never see me. A tree stand is just too restrictive. I like to hunt. My favorite time in the woods starts an hour before sunrise. I like to watch and listen to the critters come to life and begin their day. Turkeys are the best. They sounds like 20 pound bowling balls falling through a tree. Getting a deer is only a bonus, and I could care less if it has antlers or not. We eat venison all year long. Actually had venison chili for dinner tonight.
