Smile low end auto loaders of today

i am in the market for an addition to the tackle bag. i want something cheap but not junk. thats where u come in. lol what is your opinions on the cheap auto loading handguns like the high points and such? are they even worth the 200bones? also it will be in .40sw or bigger.

i have carried a 586 for years, but its too nice for banging around in a tackle bag. there for i dont know much about autoloading handguns. i have come to trust my wheel guns over the years. i know they will fire and i know where it will hit. can i expect that confidence from these new "plastic jobs"?

    thx any reviews are appreciated

Hi-Point is a great "boat gun". They are not much to look at but they run when called on and the finish is ideal for tackle box/bag carry. Spray the inside down with a good lube and it will serve the purpose.

Go to tngunowners.com and check out the reviews on that gun.
I use to go there but was kicked off for something I wouldn't do.

Hi-Point is a good cheap gun. They will fire and operate about any make of ammo. They are a heavy weapon. Just something to throw in the tackle box or storage bag and not have to worry about rusting up.

God forbid it happens but in the case of an emergency having to defend your life that gun in the tackle box is worthless- put it on your hip- I got a rossi 44 spl 5 shot that's my fishing gun & it rides on my hip if im fishing- of course I don't leave the house without 1 of some kind on my hip - day to day & @ work usually a 1911 in 45- hope to never have to use them but I am going to come home @ the end of the day
My wife swears I only do enough surveying to support my hunting & fishing because I'm too busy hunting & fishing !

I had a High Point in 9mm and it was just OK. It was accurate but could double as a boat anchor in a pinch. Now my Glock 19 rides with me everywhere as it is my CCW. Doesn't rust, goes bang no matter what,is as accurate as I am, and holds double the rounds. Is $500 cheap? No but I trust my life with it and it is very easy to maintain and keep from rusting. Just my 2 cents! Any self defense is better than none.

I'd skip the Hi Point and look for a S&W SD9 or SD40. They run $300-350.

I bought an SD9 and after shooting it, I bought a second one that is now my truck gun.

When I was employed at a place that did a lot of shooting. LOL I saw a Glock17 shoot 3500 rounds in a weekend multiple times and multiple different pistols without a cleaning. Of course they all got cleaned when the classes were finished, but that impressed the heck out of me. We are talking combat pistol classes with top operators, law enforcement and military personnel. The glock is tough to beat. The Smith and Wesson M&P's on the other hand had multiple malfunctions.

My son has a 40 cal in it for when he's out fishing, leaves it in the bag but can get it if he needs it. He brought it with him 2 yrs ago when he came to visit and it fires really nice but a bit heavier.
