since your post got me thinking and motivated, i did some testing this morining. i was very impressed with the critical duty's ability to penetrate. in the hard test(oak splits) the CDs only lacked about 1/4 inch of the FMJs penetration. mite just have to change out the FMJs! lol as soon as i round up enough news paper ill do a wet paper test, to see if i can get a difference. i also want to get some critical defense and compare. these critical duty bullets are very tough for hallow points(in wood at least). from what i seen today, they mite be a bit too tough for top of the mag status. soft tests will tell more of that story.

any other suggestions on self defense bullets is welcome.

If you can still get them, you may try the Winchester Ranger rounds. They are basically the Black Talon only a different color. I know that when we were working with the US Marshals, all of their guys and gals carried the Rangers in their duty weapon.

well the soft test was impressive too. i shot into 2 milk jugs of water backed by 8" of wet news papers. the critical duty stopped just as it exited the news paper, with perfect expansion. the FMJs were just stuck into the wood backer. id say the critical duty rounds are a great replacement for the FMJs in the bottom of my mags. i need to find a softer bullet to let fly first, as mentioned. until then the CDs will fill my mag. yes its a foot in my mouth deal. lol

bobo, i have heard of the rounds you speak of and will research them. thanks

Glock has introduced the 42 and 43, a single stack smaller framed version of their other offerings. This got my attention as a better than average carry piece in 9mm. Also available in 380 but I just don't care for the smaller round. Having long been a fan of wheelguns , had many, I also can't get excited over carrying a heavy double stack, full size defender. Wife won't touch an auto, intimidated by too many functions and safety and so on. Got her a Taurus 85 lightweight that carries easily. Found a box of 125 Nyclad hollow points(might even be +p's) and she likes that combination. Til I get something like this thread is based on I carry an inexpensive but dependable 6 shot .22 revolver stuffed with stingers at 1650fps. Nasty little thing and also gives me the option of a snake shot round in the first hole. Lots of creatures without legs here at times. If my rich uncle ever gets out of the poor house I really like the S&W 5 shot 357 offerings with internal hammers, but at around $800 that won't be today. I like the extra heat the magnum gives.

im betting she would love the shield. at least go to a shop and hold/point one. it will make you both smile i bet. lol the external safety makes me feel more comfortable with it. i still cant bring myself to carry one in the tube though. i understand how she feels, i believe. i just dont like that hammer in ready mode over a hot round, pointed down my side!

for under 400.00 out the door its well worth the money. i have several hundred rounds through the shield now with no hiccups at all. after about 400 rounds i got pretty accurate with it. takes some getting used to the small grip. at under an inch wide, it carries like a feather IWB.
